Zay Flowers bolstered his resume for the 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award during the Baltimore Ravens’ 38-6 win over the Detroit Lions.
Flowers was one of Lamar Jackson’s go-to targets against the current NFC North leaders. He tallied four catches for 75 receiving yards in the contest, including a 46-yard reception in the first quarter that sure caught Detroit’s defense off guard.
Flowers became just the second wideout since 1970 to tally at least 50 yards from scrimmage in each of his first seven games in the NFL, as noted by the Ravens' official account on X, formerly known as Twitter. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is the only other wideout who has achieved this feat, which he managed to do so during his rookie campaign in the 2021 season.
Flowers has logged 50-plus receiving yards in six out of his first seven contests played this season. He has also hauled in at least five receptions in four different games.
Flowers may not be the current favorite for this year’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honor, especially as the likes of Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud and Los Angeles Rams wideout Puka Nacua have upped their play throughout the ongoing campaign. Nonetheless, the former Boston College standout sure has what it takes to up his odds for the award in the coming weeks.
Overall, Flowers has recorded 39 receptions for 442 receiving yards this season.
