The Baltimore Orioles' surge to the top spot in the American League standings this year left many in sheer awe, including Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
The Orioles’ success in the regular season centered on numerous factors. For one, the reigning American League East champions often remained cool, calm and collected in must-win contests throughout their campaign. Overall, they finished with an MLB-best 30-16 record in one-run games in the season.
The Ravens mirrored the Orioles’ cool, calm and collected mindset in their Week 6 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. While the Titans made it interesting late, the Ravens managed to hang for a 24-16 win.
Harbaugh hopes to see this trend continue as the season progresses.
"We talked a lot about closing games out, becoming closers," Harbaugh said during his postgame press conference. "We talked about the Orioles a little bit with that, how they were able to close games out this year. That's something that we're striving to do on both sides of the ball."
While the Ravens currently boast a 4-2 record, Harbaugh still sees that there is plenty of room for improvement for his squad.
"We're not quite as good as we need to be yet," Harbaugh said. "Our defense played [well] throughout the game. The only first downs they really had were the penalties, which we have too many of – and I'm not going to comment too much on today when asked about – but I'm proud of our defense for getting that last stop."
The Ravens now sit in first place in the AFC North standings with a 4-2 record.
