The Tennessee Volunteers are heading back to the NCAA tournament. The selection committee announced the Field of 64 on Monday afternoon, and the Vol checked in as the #1 overall seed in the tournament. They will host the Knoxville regional, where they'll be joined by Southern Miss, Indiana, and Northern Kentucky.
Opponents
The Vols will draw Northern Kentucky as their 4 seed in their first matchup. The Norse (love that nickname) finished the season 35-22 and won the Horizon league championship with a 23-7 win over Youngstown State in the final, earning their first ever NCAA tournament appearance.
Vol fans know Southern Miss well. The Vols defeated USM last year in Hattiesburg in the super regional to reach the College World Series. Now, they'll get another look at them in Knoxville, where Tennessee tried to have the super regional hosted last season. The Golden Eagles compiled a 41-18 record and won the Sun Belt Tournament. Indiana, who fell to Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament, went 32-24-1 this year.
Schedule
The game times for Friday have been released. Indiana and Southern Miss will meet first at 1:00 pm ET. Tennessee and Northern Kentucky will play at 7:00 pm ET. The remainder of the time slots for the rest of the weekend will be updated here as they are announced.
How to watch
The game between Indiana and Southern Miss will be available for streaming on ESPN+. The game between the Vols and Northern Kentucky will be shown on the ESPN Network.
Opposing regional
The Knoxville regional has been paired with the Greeneville regional (East Carolina). That means the winners of each regional will face off in the super regionals with the winner of the best of three series advancing to the College World Series in Omaha. It's worth noting that Wake Forest and former UT pitcher Chase Burns are in the Greeneville regional.
