The NFL Draft cycle is called is lyin' season for a reason.

The latest victim to be involved in non-truths and fake news is Heisman Trophy winner and former LSU quarterback, Jayden Daniels. Many people believe Daniels will go No. 2 to the Washington Commanders, which is why Tuesday's rumor centering around the two got the attention it did.

Per Establish The Run's Evan Silva, it's rumored the previous meetings between Daniels and the Commanders did not go well (Daniels attended a formal Combine meeting and the parties met privately after his pro day, but Silva does not specify which meeting, or meetings, went wrong).

And, as a result of the turbulence, Daniels now wants to play for the New England Patriots – not the Commanders.

3. Patriots – LSU QB Jayden Daniels

2023’s Heisman winner, Daniels led the nation in both yards per pass attempt (11.7) and yards per rushing attempt (8.4). 31-year-old fifth-team journeyman Jacoby Brissett would be New England’s starter if the season began today. Daniels is rumored to be intent on playing for New England after Daniels’ meetings with Washington didn’t go as smoothly. – Evan Silva, Establish The Run

It's quite the interesting rumor, because Daniels is scheduled to meet with the Commanders on a top-30 visit, next week. Daniels even felt the need to point that out, himself, on X/Twitter:

There's also this:

One has to ask themselves: What could go that wrong during a formal Combine interview that is as surface-level as possible to where he'd lie about the vibe? Therefore, that leaves only the private meetings as the culprit. But again, there wouldn't be a top-30 meeting if something went wrong.

The whole situation is unfortunate. You hate to see a rumor like this get put out in the public sphere. The bright side of the situation, however, is it shows Daniels is capable of handling the media. His response was the perfect mix of respect and snark – that's how you get it done the right way.

If Daniels doesn't become a Commander, I highly, highly doubt this will be the reason why.
