NFL Free Agency hasn't even begun and we already may know the landing spot for Kirk Cousins. The Atlanta Falcons will reportedly begin discussions with the former Minnesota Vikings star quarterback as soon as the "legal tampering period" begins.
The Athletic's Diana Russini broke the new this morning. The legal tamperin period begins at 11am CT today. Any deal that is done here shortly cannot be made official until Wednesday, March 13 at 3pm CT, but it seems the Falcons may have their answer at quarterback here soon.
The Minnesota Vikings likely knew that Kirk Cousins was going to test his value on the open market, and it has been reported that any return to Minnesota was unlikely. The Vikings still have over $40 million dollars in cap room to play with this off-season, but if Cousins does indeed not return it seems all the more likely that the team turns to the draft for their future quarterback.
A new quarterback contract may cap strap the Falcons quick given they too have just over $41 million dollars in available cap room for 2024, but Raheem Morris made his intentions clear at the NFL Combine. The team's first priority this off-season was always getting the quarterback position right.
More to come on this for both teams as details begin to surface as soon as later today.
