The Kirk Cousins era is over in Minnesota.

And it will soon be the Sam Darnold era?

According to The Athletic's Diana Russini, the Vikings have their eyes on the former top-3 draft pick after Cousins agreed to a four-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

Darnold is an intriguing option, but is not a long-term solution

It's clear Darnold is a better backup option, at this point, but he's a backup with a high ceiling, at least. Overall, though, this wouldn't even come close to being a permanent solution for the Vikings.

It certainly wouldn't preclude them from drafting a quarterback, either. There's certainly a world where the Vikings would be happy with a top drat pick, Darnold, and Nick Mullens battling it out throughout the offseason.

Whether that's a world that leads to a playoff appearance in 2024 or a top-10 pick remains to be seen -and it's more likely to be the latter- it's still a world that offers both short- and long-term solutions, potentially.
