There were to gigantic holes bookending Washington Commanders pass rushers Jonathan Allen and DaRon Payne, but Dan Quinn and Adam Peters have quickly taken care of that issue over the first couple days of the legal tampering period.
First, it was Dorance Armstrong and Clelin Ferrell. Now, Quinn has added another former Cowboy that played under him in Dante Fowler Jr., per Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz.
There's an obvious trend with the Commanders' free agent haul, thus far
And it's former players under both Quinn and Peters. Three of the free agents that have agreed to terms -Armstrong, Ferrell, and Tyler Biadasz- played for either the Cowboys or 49ers and according to A to Z Sports Dallas' Mauricio Rodriguez, Quinn might not be done raiding the Cowboys' cabinet.
You don't wanna rely on familiarity, too much, as new blood and fresh ways of thinking can really help build and grow a foundation, but this is still a good idea by Quinn and co. With all due respect to Ron Rivera, he clearly didn't establish a winning culture in Washington, so Quinn is making sure he brings in the right people who know how to get that done right off the bat.
Bringing over effective players from a winning culture in Dallas can -and should- help expedite not only setting up a good culture – but the learning curve that will come with the Commanders' 2022 defenders learning Quinn's system. The same goes for tight end Zach Ertz and Kliff Kingsbury's offense.
Fowler isn't a game-wrecker, by any means, but he's a solid depth guy that will provide the Commanders with some solid play throughout the season. Don't think the Commanders are done here, though. I still wouldn't be surprised if they bring in one of the top guys on the market, like a Danielle Hunter or someone close to that.
