As a new season kicks off for the NFL every team is filled with hope that this could be the year where things go right for them. Their players all take the next step, everyone stays healthy, their draft picks all pan out, that free agent lives up the hype and they got the right coaches to bring it all together.
For so many teams, that dream often ends as a nightmare. After all, only one team can hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February.
For the 2023 season, it feels like no fan base as more cautious optimism than the New York Jets. The fan base has suffered for disappointing season after disappointing season, and it felt like no end was in sight. And now? Hope.
So, with that hope in mind, here are my three boldest predictions for the New York Jets this season.
Three Bold Predictions for 2023 New York Jets
1- Garrett Wilson finishes the year with over 1,300 yards and over 10 Touchdowns.

Wilson showed something last year that made the NFL realize that he is special. He finished with 1,100 yards and four touchdowns on his way to earning the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
The crazy part about it is he did most of his best work playing with Joe Flacco and Mike White at quarterback. He only had 34 catches for 447 yards and no touchdowns with Zach Wilson throwing to him in nine games.
This year he has Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers who has compared Wilson to Davante Adams, a receiver that connected with Rodgers for over 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns the last time they played on the same team together.
Trust is very important for Aaron Rodgers in his receivers, and he has already shown that he trust Wilson and even admires his talents. Rodgers will go to Wilson early and often, and with their intelligence and abilities, it will be difficult for defenses to stop them.
2- Quinnen Williams wins Defensive Player of the Year

The Jets defense is going to be a beast this season. And it all starts up front with the defensive line. The Jets have a rotation of defensive tackles and defensive ends that is very talented and very deep. The backups for the Jets could be starters on most other teams.
The anchor to that line is Quinnen Williams. Quinnen got paid this off season and very deservedly so. Over the last two seasons, the Jets rank first in the NFL with an 8.1 percent sack rate when Williams is on the field. When he's off the field, the Jets plummet to an abysmal 3.4 percent sack rate, which ranks 31st in the NFL.
Williams has looked even better this offseason since getting his money. He likes playing in Robert Saleh’s defense and is tailor made for it.
The Jets have a plethora of guys along the front that can’t be ignored opening up one on one matchups for Williams on the inside. With all his talent and eagerness to show it, he will feast this year and rack up over 15 sacks.
The Jets expected success this season should also put Quinnen into the spotlight more for national recognition.
3- The Jets make a big trade at the deadline for Davante Adams

Bold enough for you?
The Jets have a true number one wide receiver in Garrett Wilson and Rodgers will look to him early and often causing defenses to do all they can to remove Wilson from the game. The Jets have decent weapons behind Wilson but nobody that is going to keep defensive coaches up at night. So, Joe Douglas will do what Joe Douglas does, and make a deal.
It’s no secret Rodgers wants Adams and Adams wants to go back to Rodgers. The two have been flirting via social media all offseason.
The Raiders could be staring down the barrel of a losing season by the deadline and decide to rebuild. Enter Joe Douglas.
The Jets likely won’t have their first-round pick in 2024 so that will be off the table, but a package surrounding Bryce Huff, a young proven pass rusher on the cheap along with a future first or second round pick might be enough to get the deal done.
The Jets will be able to absorb Adams’ contract thanks to the deal Rodgers signed this offseason. And what better way to thank him than to give him two of the best wide receivers he has ever played with on the same team.
The Jets window is only open as long as Rodgers wants to play, so going all in on for a Super Bowl shouldn’t even be in question. The deal will lead to some lean years, but I don’t think any Jets fan would trade a few losing seasons for a legitimate shot at hoisting the Lombardi.
It has been a long time since the Jets expectations have been this high along with the ability to meet or exceed them. The team has the ability to be flexible during the season given their depth and roster flexibility. Provided the team can stay healthy this season, I wouldn’t even call it a bold prediction to say the Jets make the playoffs and end the 12 year drought.
That’s not bold. That is now expected.
Jets’ D.J. Reed thinks defense can be ‘historical’ in 2023
The Jets certainly have lofty expectations in 2023. Why wouldn’t they? They won seven games last season with some of the worst quarterback play imaginable from the likes of Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, and even Mike White. That problem is at least solved bringing in one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game […]
