It's not Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow's fault, but he inadvertently gave Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes some extra motivation ahead of the 2023 season.

Mahomes is apparently no longer the favorite to win the NFL MVP Award.

According to Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd, Burrow is now the slight favorite to win the award.

It's no secret that Mahomes badly wants to win another Super Bowl this season. He's committed to not letting the Chiefs suffer a "Super Bowl hangover" while working to confirm that Kansas City is a "dynasty".

“I think we’re the beginning of one. I think in dynasties, I always say you’ve got to win three,” said Mahomes to CBS Sports earlier this summer. “Our job is to do whatever we can to win as many as we can, not have any regrets when we step off the field."

In 2023, Burrow and the Bengals will be one of the Chiefs' biggest obstacles in their quest for another Lombardi Trophy.

Mahomes is already bringing the intensity during the preseason — he was fired up on the sidelines for the Chiefs' first preseason game — but it can be tough to keep that intensity all season. Especially after winning the Super Bowl last season.

This little piece of motivation — even though Burrow himself has nothing to do with it — could certainly add some fuel to Mahomes' fire this season.

A year ago, it was the national media doubting Kansas City's ability to win without superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill that helped motivate Mahomes. Perhaps this season it will be the idea that Burrow is the favorite to win the NFL MVP Award that keeps Mahomes' fired up all season (not that he needs motivation, but it helps — we all saw The Last Dance with Michael Jordan).

The last thing the Chiefs need is any help getting motivated. Burrow and the Bengals might want to hope these odds flip back in Mahomes' favor before the start of the season.
