Jets defense looks better than offense early in camp

Jets fans: I get it. We haven’t been here. Not since the 2012 season coming off back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances have we thought so highly of our team that we felt this sense of hope and optimism.

I get it. Believe me. But some of you need to take a deep breath and calm the hell down. Even if you think you aren’t one of those of fans, do it anyway to make sure.

The Jets opened training camp this week and with that came a lot of excitement. Everyone is healthy or tracking towards being healthy for the season. Everyone is in the “best shape of [their} lives” and yes, Aaron Rodgers is wearing Jets green instead of Green Bay Packers green.

With training camp open also comes crowds. The first practice open to the public saw about 2,000 Jet fans there to get a glimpse of the new offense.

And with the crowds come the cell phones. And with the cell phones comes a view of every throw in practice. And with a view of every throw in practice comes thousands of armchair quarterbacks.

In the few days since camp has opened, Aaron Rodgers and the Jets offense has not looked like a Super Bowl contender and the social media quarterback gurus have been out in full force. Some are already calling the Jets offense dead in the water and Aaron Rodgers is “washed”.

Imagine that. Jet fans overreacting to a single throw in a practice setting. Where have we seen this before? Let me remind you.

Everyone thought they found the guy based on a throw in practice. Overreacting a single throw is a sure way to drive yourselves crazy. It is a long preseason still to go, and if we are being honest, the chemistry building will continue into the season.

So, let’s settle this once and for all Jet fans:

  1.  It’s the first week of practice.
  2. It’s practice. Understand that? Practice.
  3. Defenses are far more along than offenses at the start of the season. That’s why you will see a lot of unders hit early in the season for you gambling junkies.
  4. The Jets defense is really good.
  5.  99% of you don’t really know what you are watching. You see underthrown ball and think Rodgers missed it. What if the receiver was supposed to run the route flatter? What if there is a safety over the top? Last I checked, an incompletion is better than an interception.
  6. IT’S STILL THE FIRST WEEK OF BLEEPIN PRACTICE!

Don’t drive yourselves crazy hanging on every throw as if it will determine this entire season. It won’t. Enjoy the ride.

By the way, did you see that one throw to Corey Davis?!

The options at offensive line for the Jets

What matters more: chemistry or competition? Depth or cohesion? Quality or quantity? These are the questions the New York Jets are going to have to answer when it comes to their offensive line in 2023. As we enter training camp the Jets have a high quantity of decent, serviceable offensive linemen on their roster. So, […]
