The Indianapolis Colts will enter the 2023 NFL Draft needing a franchise quarterback. But that won't be the easiest problem to solve due to where the Colts sit in the draft order.

As it sits today, Indianapolis is behind two quarterback-needy teams in the order: Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans. Carolina traded up to the No. 1 overall pick, while the Texans are rivals with the Colts and are expected to land their signal caller.

However, there is one prospect that is generating more and more steam to be the pick for the Colts: Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson. In fact, two recent mock drafts have Indianapolis taking the former Gators passer off the board in the top-five.

Both Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network and Trevor Sikkema from Pro Football Focus see the Colts landing Richardson. In the two mock drafts, Richardson is the third quarterback off the board.

The reasoning is simple for Jeremiah, who also notes that Kentucky quarterback Will Levis could be an option for the Colts:

Richardson’s unbelievable athleticism would be a fun fit in Shane Steichen’s offense.

Additionally, Sikkema considers Richardson to be a top-tier prospect in the class. It would be difficult for Indianapolis to pass up on him if he is still there outside of the first three picks.

The Colts will face plenty of pressure to land their quarterback of the future in this draft. We know it won’t be at No. 1, and we figure it won’t be at No. 2, either. It will be a big win if they can stay at No. 4 and still get a top-tier talent like Richardson.

Richardson is an intriguing talent that continues to be linked to the Indianapolis Colts throughout the pre-draft process. It makes sense, because head coach Shane Steichen had a ton of success with Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.

A lot can happen between now and draft weekend. However, it is becoming clear that many are thinking Anthony Richardson is the quarterback that the Colts are looking to come away with in the NFL Draft.
