The team reached an agreement with fifth-round draft pick Yasir Abdullah on Tuesday. The deal is for four years, $4,205,216 with a $365,216 signing bonus, per a source. The base salary increases incrementally each year of the deal as follows:
- 2023: $750,000
- 2024: $915,000
- 2025: $1.03 million
- 2026: $1.145 million
Abdullah played 5 seasons at Louisville, earning second-team All-ACC honors in 2021 while tallying 10 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss for the Cardinals. He garnered first-team All-ACC honors in 2022, with his 9.5 sacks leading the ACC. For his career, Abdullah totaled 23.5 sacks and 43 tackles for loss, good for eighth and second-best in school history, respectively.
Abdullah's speed, athleticism, and pass-rushing ability should provide him with an opportunity to see the field in pass-rushing situations as a backup edge rusher for the Jaguars this fall.
Abdullah is one of 13 players drafted by Jacksonville in the 2023 NFL Draft.
