The Indianapolis Colts selected Anthony Richardson in the first-round of the 2023 NFL Draft in hopes of him being the answer to their quarterback question marks. It's no secret that the position has been a revolving door for the last few seasons.
Richardson is an exciting prospect behind center and he brings a new kind of energy to the franchise. He is the most athletic quarterback prospect ever and plays a fun style of football. Therefore, he has already been generating some real hype.
Not only for the Colts. He is also creating some buzz for fantasy football. Which makes sense given that Richardson is a dynamic offensive threat thanks to his ability to throw the ball and run the ball.
Richardson accounted for 26 touchdowns during his final season at Florida. 17 of which were through the air, while nine were on the ground. Additionally, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards in college, including 654 last season.
His running ability fits in well with head coach Shane Steichen's offense. After all, Jalen Hurts enjoyed a ton of success in Steichen's scheme in 2022. Both in real games and in fantasy football.
Therefore, fantasy football expert Matthew Berry views Richardson as a top option at quarterback in leagues next season. In fact, Berry believes that the Colts rookie will find success from the moment he plays.
"He is such an amazing athlete," said Berry. "I'm telling you guys that Anthony Richardson, from moment one, the minute that he's announced as the starter for the Colts, he's a top-12 fantasy quarterback."
Berry provided examples of what Lamar Jackson and Hurts did as rookie quarterbacks in terms of fantasy production to back up his argument. It's definitely reasonable to believe Richardson can exceed them both if handed the keys early in the season.
The hype continues to build for the Indianapolis Colts rookie signal caller. Anthony Richardson is impressing in camp already, and it hasn't taken long for him to create some real fantasy football buzz.
