There was a lot of pressure on the Indianapolis Colts entering the 2023 NFL Draft. It was no secret that Indianapolis had to come away with their next franchise quarterback with its first-round selection.

Indianapolis had a revolving door at the position dating back to Andrew Luck retiring in 2019. Plus, first-year head coach Shane Steichen needed a signal caller to build his offense around. Therefore, the Colts locked in on Florida's Anthony Richardson.

The Colts did get their guy at No. 4 overall. And there's a ton of excitement about what Richardson is bringing to the franchise. However, there was nearly a moment that would have spoiled the whole plan for general manager Chris Ballard.

That moment came just before the Colts went on the clock. Because the Arizona Cardinals traded out of the No. 3 overall selection. With Bryce Young and CJ Stroud already off the board, there was a chance that a team was trading up to jump the Colts.

Which would have ruined the Colts' draft plans. Due to the fact that Anthony Richardson would have the prospect that such a team would have been targeting in the scenario. Fortunately, things played out well for the Colts.

Ballard did not appear to be very happy when he learned that the Cardinals traded out of their pick. There was almost a sense of panic. But a sense of relief quickly appeared on the general manager when it was revealed that the Texans were the trade partner.

Of course, the Houston Texans had already selected CJ Stroud. Which meant they were out of the QB market. Therefore, Ballard realized that Richardson would still be on the board for Indianapolis to take.

The video provided an inside look at the Colts' war room as the NFL Draft unfolded in real time. It is clear that the Indianapolis Colts were excited to add the Florida standout to its roster.
