Football is back! Okay, not quite. But it's still exciting to see clips pop up on social media from the Jacksonville Jaguars rookie minicamp, which is taking place this weekend.
This is the rookies' first chance to work with the coaches and show what they've got on the practice field. And while it's still extremely early in the offseason, there are two rookies that are already putting on a show:
OT Anton Harrison (first-round pick) and EDGE Yasir Abdullah (fifth-round pick).
In one moment during practice, the Jaguars' rookies split two significant reps.
Harrison, who's already projected to start at right tackle for the Jags, lost to Abdullah's speed and explosiveness in the first rep shown below. Talk about a way for the outside linebacker to make a strong first impression. Harrison, however, came right back with a rep stone-walling Abdullah.
Of course, no big conclusions should be taken away from a couple of plays in which the players aren't even going at full speed while not wearing pads. But it's certainly fun to see Abdullah stepping up against the Jaguars' first-round draft pick.
It's also evident how the Jaguars look at Abdullah. A stand-up pass rusher at Louisville, many believed he projected best as an off-ball linebacker to the NFL. However, it's becoming very clear that Jacksonville looks at him as an edge rusher. He'd definitely be helping a bigger team need if able to contribute there.
The offseason is just getting started but it's already great to be discussing Jaguars football.
