The Indianapolis Colts have had some significant turnover since the end of the 2022 NFL season. Most notably, the Colts hired Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as the team's head coach.

Additionally, the Colts have a new franchise quarterback. Indianapolis selected Anthony Richardson at No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. It remains to be seen how quickly the coaching staff will turn him loose.

Indianapolis needs a bounce back season in a big way. Fortunately, the schedule sets up well for that to happen. But, the team needs one of their most important position groups to play much better than how they performed last year.

That would be the offensive line. Whether it be because of injuries, a midseason coaching change, or different quarterbacks behind center, the unit did not play well. Especially considering the expectations that they had already established.

Quenton Nelson did not perform like the All-Pro guard that he had been leading up to last season. Additionally, the Colts have some question marks at tackle and the other guard spot that must be answered. Nonetheless, Pro Football Focus views the group as the team's strength leading into next season.

Almost every member of the Colts' offensive line had a down year in 2022, but given the talent of Quenton Nelson and Ryan Kelly, expect a bounceback in 2023 to aid Anthony Richardson’s development.

Of course, if the 2022 NFL season was just a down year, then that's great news for the Colts. Because at their best, the Colts' offensive line has the ability to overwhelm defenses any given week. That's especially true when running the ball.

Indianapolis needs the offensive line to be at its best in 2023. Because that would help accelerate Anthony Richardson's development on the field. The better protection and more time he has, the better that the rookie will likely play.
