All eyes will soon be on rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson with the Indianapolis Colts preparing to open training camp. The first-year signal caller enters the NFL with a lot of hype ahead of the regular season.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen have hitched their wagon to the uber athletic passer out of Florida. Indianapolis targeted him as its guy in the 2023 NFL Draft before selecting him at No. 5 overall.
It remains to be seen how soon Richardson is handed the keys to the franchise during his initial season. But the sooner that he hits the field, the better – potentially – it is for the Colts. In fact, ESPN thinks he has what it takes to help the Colts turn heads in a big way.
Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky included the Colts rookie passer in his bold predictions segment this week. Orlovsky predicts Richardson to earn accolades and make a strong impression during his first season.
He goes as far to say that Richardson is a "unicorn talent" due to what he can do throwing and running the football. Richardson showcased his rare physical traits on several occasions in college.
"Anthony Richardson, the rookie quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts, will Offensive Rookie of the Year," said Orlovsky. "He's a unicorn talent, where he can beat you with his arm, legs and mind."
Orlovsky does not stop there. Rather, he also mentions how Steichen successfully helped develop Jalen Hurts with the Eagles and how Richardson should fit that offense well as a result.
"Steichen comes over from Philadelphia, where he worked wonders with Jalen Hurts. (Richardson) is absolutely going to take off and be dominant this year," Orlovsky continued. "They've got Jonathan Taylor, the offensive line will be a little bit better, and some big perimeter players."
There is a lot of excitement surrounding Anthony Richardson with the 2023 NFL regular season is just around the corner. Count ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky among those on board the hype train.
