The Indianapolis Colts are in a position to rely heavily on its 2023 NFL Draft class. Especially at quarterback and in the secondary, where the Colts spent premium draft capital.

In regards to the defensive backfield, the Colts drafted Julius Brents in the second-round in hopes of replacing Stephon Gillmore, who was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason as Indianapolis reshapes the back end of its defense.

Brents has been sidelined so far this offseason with a wrist injury. The former Kansas State star defender had surgery, but he should be ready to go for minicamp before the season.

At Kansas State, Brent emerged as a big-time player for the Wildcats. He features a 6-foot-3 and 198-pound frame with good length on the outside. He can matchup with different kind of receivers and displays potential as a ball hawk.

Brents was named first-team All-Big 12 during his final season on the collegiate level before the Colts selected him in the second-round. He grabbed four interceptions and totaled 45 tackles in 2022.

The latest A to Z Film Breakdown reveals why Julius Brents will be an important piece to the Indianapolis Colts defense during his rookie season in the NFL. Brents is a versatile defender that should be able to make an impact in coverage and as a run defender.

In addition to his fame, Brents features a 4.53 40-yard dash and jumped 41.5 inches in the vertical jump. That quickness and explosive ability showed up time and time again on film against Big 12 offenses.

Indianapolis will rely on Brents to play a big role as a rookie, along with fellow rookie Darius Rush. The two have the talent and ability to develop into a formidable duo in the defensive backfield for the Colts.
