Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski certainly struck up quite the friendship while playing together with the New England Patriots.
The former receiver appeared on the Fubo Sports’ “No Chill” podcast and told many stories about his time spent living in Massachusetts, including one fun memory of a Red Sox game he attended with Gronkowski.
Early in their careers, when Gronkowski was "just starting to become Gronk," the two attended a Red Sox game together and the minute fans saw the tight end get into the car, they ran over.
"They swarmed the car and they were shaking the car for Gronk," Edelman said. "Gronk gets out of the sunroof. Everybody's going crazy. People are throwing bras, shirts."
"Gronk's an absolute rockstar."
Gronkowski did not shy away from the spotlight, known for his crazy antics including fun dance moves and Super Bowl parade escapades.
The two have remained friends even after they retired and were recently seen hanging out together alongside Tom Brady on the beach in March after the quarterback announced his retirement.
Edelman was asked about how the beach football get together occurred, with Josiah Johnson asking if they all have a group chat together.
At that, Edelman just laughed at the idea of Brady in a group chat.
"One of his 17 assistants hit us all up," Edelman said. "He takes care of everything, but it's nothing like that. I think I talked to assistant number 42 or something and we all went out there and celebrated his career."
And along with his relationship with his former teammates, Edelman also spoke about his friendship with a Celtics legend.
Paul Pierce and Edelman hang out often, and the two were together when the receiver was arrested in January 2020, but Edelman blames the incident on "too much tequila."
He and Pierce were watching football together in Beverly Hills after the Patriots were eliminated early and due to a robbery nearby, he and the rest of the customers were forced to stay inside. Edelman and Pierce spent that time drinking.
After they were permitted to leave, the two were walking by a parking garage and as a car was pulling out, Edelman attempted to slide across the hood of the car.
“Me being an idiot, I did like a little hood-slide on it, and didn’t really get a good hood-slide,” Edelman said. “There was a little precipitation in the air, and I was wearing jeans. So I got stuck. If I would have actually hood-slid, I think it would have been good. But the guy got out of the car, and waves down a cop.”
The result: Edelman was arrested for misdemeanor vandalism.
Yet, he was able to laugh about the whole ordeal on the podcast.
Edelman created a lot of memories during his time with the Patriots, and it is clear that all Boston athletes shared not only a passion for playing, but also a solid bond.
"We all have a really good relationship," Edelman said about the other Boston sports teams. "I mean there was never really like a rivalry between the guys. It was kind of more like a brotherhood."
