The NFL Draft is fast approaching, and Eagles fans eagerly await what general manager Howie Roseman does.
However, if there's one thing we know about Roseman, it's that he likes a draft-day trade or two. Roseman has had control or at least shared control of draft decisions for over a decade now and has made more than 40 draft trades during that time.
The Eagles currently have six selections in the 2023 NFL Draft, but you can rest assured that will change.
Roseman and the Eagles currently control the following picks:
- Round 1, Pick 10 (from New Orleans)
- Round 1, Pick 30
- Round 2, Pick 62
- Round 3, Pick 94
- Round 7, Pick 219 (from HOU via MIN)
- Round 7, Pick 248
Notice the large gap between the third and seventh rounds. I can not see Roseman sitting idle for three entire rounds.
So what could Roseman do?
Well, for starters, the Eagles have 12 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. double the amount of 2023. I expect Roseman to look to balance these picks out between the two drafts.
For example, the Eagles will for sure have two second-round picks, and expect to get a second third-rounder as compensation for losing Javon Hargrave.
Roseman could potentially use these picks to land a 2023 fourth or fifth-round pick if a player is floating around that catches his eye.
Another possibility could be the Eagles trading down from No. 10. The top 10 is expected to be QB-heavy, and the Eagles are not in the market for one of those.
Perhaps the board will not fall the way Roseman likes, and he would prefer to trade back. Moving back in the first round and collecting a few mid-round picks in the process could be better valued than anyone at No. 10.
Either way, it seems that Roseman is set to add to his trade total in 2023.
