The Indianapolis Colts are almost guaranteed to select a quarterback in the first-round of the fast-approaching 2023 NFL Draft. Barring anything unforeseen, of course.
Anthony Richardson is the name generating the most smoke for the Colts. Although he is not the only signal caller with some buzz around the league as the potential pick for Indianapolis.
Richardson is the pick for the Colts in a recent mock draft made by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. The mock draft included input and quotes from league sources. And one coach that was quoted believes that Richardson may be the most talented player in the draft.
The coach, that was kept anonymous by Feldman, said that there isn't a more talented prospect in the draft. Adding a player like Richardson is certainly an exciting thing to think about for the Colts.
“Talent-wise, there isn’t anybody better. When he’s got his knees bent (mechanics-wise), he’s really good."
Another coach added that Richardson has some Cam Newton-like ability behind center. Newton earned MVP honors in the league and led the Carolina Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance. Therefore, that's a lofty comparison.
"I think he’s the closest thing we’ve seen to Cam (Newton), and his combine numbers were obviously better. I think that comp is fair. I think his best football is in front of him. I don’t think they asked him to do too much with reads.”
Anthony Richardson continues to be the quarterback that is being linked to the Indianapolis Colts leading up to the draft. And it's probably not a coincidence that the Colts may have shown their hand at his pro day.
Richardson does have some risk potential, like any other quarterback prospect. However, there is no denying how ridiculously high his ceiling is. The Indianapolis Colts would have to be thrilled if Feldman's mock draft comes to fruition.
