The Indianapolis Colts are just days away from making their first-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. At long last, the franchise will have hope at the most important position on the field.
It remains to be seen which direction and player that the Colts take on Thursday night in Kansas City. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is widely expected to go No. 1 overall. After that, it's anybody's guess what will happen once the draft begins.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard is not feeling any pressure despite the importance of getting the pick right. At least not publicly. Instead, he insists that Indianapolis is ready for the moment.
In fact, Ballard actually thinks that the media and fan base are feeling the heat more than he is. Bold statement from a general manager that desperately needs an answer at quarterback. Or maybe it's simply genuine confidence.
“I think y’all feel more pressure than I do,” Ballard said. “When you do the work, the pressure is not as great as what people make it out to be. There’s not a lot of angst within you.”
Ballard's comments should have the Colts' fan base fired up for the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. He suggests that the front office and coaching staff have done the necessary work to determine the correct path to take when on the clock.
Which shouldn't be groundbreaking news. That is their job, after all. Still, it's refreshing to hear the confidence that Ballard seemingly has heading into what will be one of the more critical drafts for the Colts in recent memory.
The Indianapolis Colts will have their quarterback of the future in just a few short days. It is very clear that Chris Ballard is not sweating the wait and will be ready when Indianapolis is on the clock.
That's exciting.
