Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard and first-year head coach Shane Steichen will have the say in who the team drafts to be its franchise quarterback. The pressure is on for the duo to get the selection right.
However, they may not be the only one with some influence. Obviously, owner Jim Irsay will be involved in draft discussions. Scouts and coaches will have input on building the board, too.
And then there's Peyton Manning, the former legendary Colts quarterback. The Manning Family is arguably the most influential family in football, and they have reportedly approved one of the top prospects in the class.
ESPN NFL insider Matt Miller discussed the possibility of the Indianapolis Colts adding Will Levis at No. 4 overall in the NFL Draft. According to Miller, there has been a lot of smoke connecting Levis to the Colts since the NFL Scouting Combine.
"Even going back to those conversations late-night at the scouting combine, it was that Indianapolis was connected to Will Levis," Miller said on ESPN this week. "The closer we get to Thursday night, Will Levis is the (quarterback) most often connected to the Colts."
Furthermore, Miller mentioned that the Manning Family has "signed off" on Levis being the pick for the Colts. While Indianapolis has done their homework on the top signal callers, it's Levis who Peyton and company reportedly like.
"One thing that I've heard from people close to the Colts is that the Manning Family signed off on Will Levis," said Miller. "That probably goes back to Levis spending time with the family at the Manning Passing Academy."
It's always noteworthy when Peyton Manning voices his opinion. Especially since he led the Colts to a Super Bowl and is regarded as one of the biggest legends in the franchise's history.
Manning won't be the one in the draft room making the decision for Ballard and Steichen. But, the family reportedly let it be known who they prefer to be the selection.
