The Green Bay Packers are searching for a player who can be that guy after losing the franchise great in the offseason.
Seeing Aaron Rodgers go wasn't particularly easy. He had been with the Packers for so long. But, it's over now and it's time to move on. The Packers need to find that guy to carry the load of being a franchise guy because they currently don't have one.
There are a few players that could be – guys that resonate with the fan base and have already been on the team for quite some time but are also very good at their job. There are three that stand out to me.
Three Packers players could be franchise guys
Aaron Jones, RB
Jones is a guy that has been with the team for seven seasons now and is the best at his position on the team. At this point, he may be the best-skilled position on the offensive side of the ball. He is an elite running back that can run and catch the ball.
He is also a guy the fans know and love, especially because of the sombrero hat, everyone has loved the energy he brings. The biggest reason why though, is his leadership. This offseason, he is already instilling that into his mindset.
"They are leaders, guys like Aaron Jones as well," receiver Jayden Reed told the media. "Even though he isn't in my room [receiver room], he's a leader around the facility, around the building, to everybody. I think everybody is adding to that expectation of being a leader."
Jaire Alexander, CB
You can easily make a case for the best player on the team being Alexander, and if you don't want to go that far you could say he is one of the most notable names on the team. He always gets the opposing team's best receiver and he usually doesn't lose the matchup.
Alexander has a mentality fans love too. Look back at some of his locker room scrums after big games, whether it be against Minnesota or Buffalo. He has that attitude that you want on your team, that he thinks no one on the other side is better than him.
But he is also a leader. He is a guy that is helping a secondary with young depth. He is a guy that could probably wear the C on his chest in 2023, and a lot of fans love that.
Jordan Love, QB
There isn't really much to say about Love that you likely don't already know when it comes to being a franchise guy. Let's start with the fact that he is the quarterback, which is oftentimes the player fans know the most.
He is young, just signed an extension, and will be around for a while. The Packers are expecting big things out of the former Utah State quarterback, or they wouldn't have drafted him to replace Rodgers.
That's another thing. The Packers have had two great quarterbacks in the last 20 or 30 years. They had Brett Favre and he was relaxed by Aaron Rodgers, who was drafted with Favre still in town. The same can be said about Love.
Ultimately it will be the fans who decide which franchise guy is, but these three make a great case for it.
