Detroit Lions Mailbag: Can Ford Field break the decibel record Sunday?

The first week of the season is out of the way for the Detroit Lions and now we can get back onto a normal schedule. The Lions will predominantly be playing on Sunday, so we'll aim to do a mail bag in the middle of each week. Here's the first one of the season. Let's jump into the questions.

Interestingly enough, the record comes from the place the Lions just won at last Thursday. Arrowhead Stadium set the decibel record of 142.2 in 2014. The loudest that Ford Field has ever gotten is 121.1 decibels per Lions president Rod Wood. That was back in 2016 after the Lions beat the Commanders in the final moments of the game. I think there's a very strong chance that Lions fans can beat that on Sunday. Especially if the Lions can do something like come out and score on their first drive. Maybe if things go crazy enough, they can have a shot at breaking the Chiefs record.

Speaking of Ford Field, there could be a really cool moment in time on Sunday if Lions fans show up adorned in blue ski masks. They've already bought Amazon out, will they buy out anyone else?

As for people hating it, I can't speak to that since I've only really seen a positive reaction to the whole thing. Detroit has such an individualistic fan base since it's one of the only groups out there that didn't bandwagon their way into the place because the team was successful. I think this could be a real moment for them to show off that individuality. Also, I'm just messing around other fan bases. Calm down.

Look, it's only been one game this year, but you have to like what you saw from him in coverage. I wouldn't expect the Lions to throw him out there a ton unless it's against a tight end or a running back, but he can handle that.

He played five snaps in coverage on Thursday and graded out with a 63.3 grade on Pro Football Focus. We'll see where that goes as the season moves forward. It's a good sign that he's taking to development and can be more than just a pass rush specialist.

I think there's a shot at it. He practiced all week last week and practiced on Monday of this week. We should really get some answers on Friday when game designations come in. We might even get some news on Wednesday when the first practice report drops. If he's a full participant, you can bet he's debuting Sunday. If he's limited again, then we'll see.

That was an interesting thing and I spent much of the last few days just racking my brain on what was going on there. Raymond was a huge part of the Lions offense in 2022 and now he's playing just nine snaps in the season opener.

My prevailing theory right now is that the Lions don't know what to do with Raymond at the moments since Jahmyr Gibbs can give the team everything they can get from Raymond and then some. It almost feels like Raymond's old role has become obsolete.

They did extend him this offseason, so they like him. But they might have to change up what they planned to do with him. Should be an interesting situation to watch.

Man, this is a hard one. The old rule is that you should spend at least two months salary on a ring. But the thing about those rules is that nobody follows them. Your potential spouse might want you to really spend a lot of money on it or they might not care at all as long as they're getting married.

I say the best way to do it is to take significant other to the mall one day and just be like "hey, I've got to run in here to look at something for my mom for Christmas. Dennis Reynolds would say that your demonstrating value. Another good move to get them in the jeweler store is if you yourself wear jewelry. Say you need to get it cleaned.

Then while it's being cleaned, go by the rings and see what draws their eye. Go back later and find out the price. Then save your money.

Or you can just work the Ring Pop angle and make sure you've prepared the greatest speech and proposal all time. That might buy you a day or two. Either that or you might be able to find a nice new apartment for yourself.

Dan Miller

I've been getting a ton of questions about where the Dan Miller videos are from Thursday's game and why the Lions haven't releases them yet. The Lions just said this.
