A Missed Evaluation
A former Steelers LB that was let walk a couple of seasons back, Spillane has been a revelation in Vegas, and one of the lone bright spots on what was a dark team prior to the personnel changes on Halloween.
Now, hindsight is certainly 20-20, and Spillane wasn't the playmaker in Pittsburgh that he has been in Vegas, but he has been durable, reliable, and most importantly effective. These are all things that Pittsburgh now has questions about following season-ending injuries to two of their three best linebackers.
So the onus is now on Mark Robinson to step up as he will have to take a bigger role than even he could have anticipated in his second year as a converted linebacker. The former collegiate running back plays with intensity and pace, so while he may be green and miss some plays that guys like Alexander or Holcomb wouldn't at least we know effort won't be an issue.
As for Spillane, not only did he get the game ball and the win, but he announced to the world that he and his wife are expecting.
So good for him. It's surely a night he will never forget. And as Coach T would say: "Once a Steeler, always a Steeler."
