The NFL has officially announced compensatory draft pick selections for the 2024 NFL draft in April. Baltimore Ravens will be one team that benefits with an extra draft pick in April.
In the upcoming draft, the Ravens will officially receive a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It will be pick No. 35 in the round and 134 overall. They will now have a total of eight draft picks to add some new additions to the team.
Explaining the Ravens' compensatory pick in 2024
The assignment of compensatory draft picks in the NFL is pretty simple. If you lose more compensatory free agents than you gain in a given offseason, you qualify for compensation in the following year's draft.
Baltimore lost two qualifying free agents while signing one last offseason. Ben Powers was signed to a deal worth $13 million a year with the Denver Broncos and Josh Oliver signed a deal worth $7 million with the Minnesota Vikings. The Ravens signed one qualifying free agent with WR Nelson Agholor so that canceled out the pick they would have received for losing Oliver.
It is losing Powers that brought the Ravens an extra pick, according to Over The Cap. Sometimes losing a player is tough but on the bright side, you get a pick that gives you a chance to draft another prospect for the team.
Many teams operate knowing they can receive extra picks depending on what they do in free agency and who they lose. Count the Ravens and GM Eric DeCosta in that group.
