Former Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton has been arrested after multiple weeks on the run from a warrant in Tampa, Florida, Sutton turned himself into the Hillsborough County Sheriffs.
The Sheriff of Hillsborough County has released this statement:
"After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County. My thoughts are with this woman as she continues to heal from this man’s gruesome actions.”
Sutton had a warrant out for domestic battery by strangulation for an incident that allegedly occurred in the Tampa area on March 7th. The sheriffs had been looking for Sutton for two weeks before they publicly released his warrant on social media on March 20th.
The Lions had found out that same day and Cameron Sutton happened to be on the premises when he showed up unexpectedly and started working with the Lions strength coaches.
The Lions then advised him to seek council and turn himself in before Sutton left the facility. The Lions released Sutton the next day. Now he's in police custody and we will see where this case goes from here.
Sutton's attorney contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriffs office on March 25th and told them that he would soon turn himself in. He did so at 8:24PM on Easter Sunday.
