The Kansas City Chiefs started the day off with positive injury news with the return of Jawaan Taylor and Tre Watson from the Active/PUP list. During practice, they had an injury scare with a key rookie.  With the pads on and the physicality of practice amped up a notch, injuries are bound to happen. They just so happen to have come to a player at a position where the Chiefs can hardly afford them.

According to A to Z Sports' Nick Roesch, Chiefs rookie DT Omarr Norman-Lott hurt himself on what was the first play of 11-on-11 team drills. He was spotted hobbling after the play, limping around in an effort to walk it off, but struggling at times to put full weight on his left leg.

After having a member of the training staff look at him briefly on the sideline, Norman-Lott checked in for another play but nearly immediately went down. He walked gingerly to the sideline to the medical tent under his own power, where the training staff attended to him.

Norman-Lott returned to practice during the final 11-on-11 team period, working with the second-team defense. His left ankle was heavily taped, suggesting some sort of mild ankle injury. Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed after practice that Norman-Lott "tweaked" his ankle, but came back in toward the end of practice.

"(Omarr Norman-Lott) tweaked his ankle just a little bit," Reid told reporters. "Yeah, he came back (to practice)."

Kansas City can't afford an injury to a player like Norman-Lott, who has been a standout during the early stages of training camp. He's getting a lot of run with the first-team defense and seems to be the favorite to take a large portion of the snaps vacated by Tershawn Wharton and Derrick Nnadi.

Other Kansas City Chiefs injury news revealed by Chiefs HC Andy Reid after practice

In other injury news, Reid confirmed that Chiefs TE Jake Briningstool is dealing with a hamstring injury. He doesn't have a timeline for his return to practice.

Reid also spoke a bit more about CB Kristian Fulton, who remains on the PUP list due to knee surgery.

"That was back in the spring," Reid said. "Yeah, it was a clean-up."

Norman-Lott wasn't the only player who found himself in the training tent on Sunday, as CB Darius Rush was spotted getting checked out by the training staff, per Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick. Chiefs HC Andy Reid didn't provide any updates on Rush following Sunday's practice.
