Ok, we’ve got quite a bit to talk about with the Detroit Lions on a Sunday in August. They just made a significant number of roster moves after their matchup with the Falcons on Friday. Here’s what we’ve got:
Three more Lions are out for the season
Offensive linemen Colby Sorsdal and Justin Herron and tight end Kenny Yeboah have all been placed on season-ending injured reserve. This is a really tough break for Sorsdal, who the Lions drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He never quite caught on in those first two seasons, and now he’s going to miss his third.
Herron got hurt in pregame warm-ups against the Falcons. At this time, we do not know what happened there. Yeboah has been dealing with different injuries all summer.
Waived Jabari Small with injury settlement
The Lions signed running back Deon Jackson earlier on Sunday, and now we know why. Small must have gotten hurt in Friday night’s game. The Lions are waiving him with an injury settlement. If he clears waivers, he reverts back to the Lions’ injured reserve list.
Sign three more UFL players, bringing the total to eight
The Lions signed former Michigan Panthers tight end Gunnar Oakes. He’s coming off an All-UFL season in which the former Eastern Michigan standout caught 14 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. This will be his first shot at the NFL.
The team also added DC Defenders offensive lineman Gunner Britton. He went undrafted out of Auburn in 2024 and spent the summer with the Buffalo Bills before joining the UFL. He’s primarily been a guard.
Lastly, there’s veteran offensive lineman Keaton Sutherland from the Birmingham Stallions. He’s been around the NFL since 2019 and has played for the Bengals twice, the Dolphins, 49ers, Texans, Commanders, and Jaguars. He’s primarily been a tackle and has mostly been on practice squads. He’s started two games in the NFL.

Big Za’Darius Smith news could affect his potential return to the Lions
Here’s one I never thought I’d write. Being a tabloid or entertainment type reporter was never something I strived to be, but this bit of news is something that could have an affect on the Detroit Lions’ future plans. Za’Darius Smith and Detroit area rapper Kash Doll have broken up, per the rapper and the […]
