Elite QB prospect admits he could ‘Commit any time’ to Penn State after seeing Drew Allar’s development

The race for any top-rated quarterback often comes down to external factors that even the best programs can’t account for. The Penn State Nittany Lions are on the verge of producing a high first-round NFL prospect in Drew Allar, though, and his four-year journey will be completed this fall. Allar’s growth has been a main talking point amongst any passer on James Franklin’s radar for good reason.
2027 four-star quarterback Keegan Croucher is certainly taking notice of what Happy Valley has built in recent years. The Nittany Lions are close to being a blue blood by any standard, and the New York product is drawn to Franklin’s staff and Penn State’s location.
They won’t be alone in chasing Croucher, though. The 10th-ranked passer in his class is clearly favoring Penn State, Oregon, and Ole Miss. He has visits locked into each location this fall.
“There’s no order right now,” Croucher told Rivals. “They’re all doing a great job. Those three schools are all pretty similar, but they each have their differences.”
Instead of coming to the whiteout showdown against Oregon in late September, he’ll be attending the Indiana matchup on Nov. 8. He’s excited to visit all three campuses, and admits being the lone QB in the class matters.
“I want to get to all three of those games. They’re waiting for me, they’re really pushing hard for me, and they’re not going to take any other quarterback besides me…“I can commit any time, but most likely after the season. The biggest thing when I commit is who I have the best relationship with and where I get the best development as a player. I want a place that feels like home.”
Specifically, he noted that Penn State’s nearby location and relationships have him intrigued, whereas he likes the NFL ties Ole Miss has and Oregon’s quarterback development ability. The Nittany Lions, of course, can pitch their own developmental strategies.
“I’ve been close with their coaching staff for a while now. It’s close to home, and I like what they’re doing at the quarterback position.”
Allar has seen his completion rate spike and general accuracy clearly improve over his first two seasons to his 2024 breakout. He completed almost six percent more of his attempts, and while his touchdown and interception rates were worse, he had a bigger role in the offense. Another jump could come this fall.
On3 has Penn State as the favorite to land the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder currently. He’s been to Penn State a leading four times, with Michigan hosting him three times and Notre Dame twice.
