The writing is on the wall for the Commanders to send away one player before the NFL trade deadline
The Commanders can collect another draft pick before the trade deadline.
The Washington Commanders are 3-5 as they reach the halfway point of the season, and there’s one more game to be played before the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4.
No matter what their record is, the Commanders need to sell what players they can at the trade deadline and collect more draft assets, as they only have six picks for the 2026 NFL draft. They don’t have many players to move in the middle of the season that would make sense, but there have been a couple of names that people have been curious about, including Daron Payne and Brandon Coleman.
Payne could be a player to watch if they lose to the Seahawks, but I’d highly doubt they trade him after a win. Coleman also came in for Laremy Tunsil against the Kansas City Chiefs and played well after being inactive for five straight weeks. There is one player, however, that could be traded as soon as this week.
Commanders should trade corner Noah Igbinoghene
The trade rumors about Noah Igbinoghene started before the season began, as teams around the league need young corners. The Commanders checked in with teams to see what his market was back in late August, but a deal never got done.
A trade never happened, and Igbinoghene has only been on the field for 43 snaps this season. It’s not too late for a trade, however, and we’ve seen teams get active recently, including trades for a corner. The Los Angeles Rams just traded for Roger McCreary from the Tennessee Titans, and the Cleveland Browns did a corner swap with the Jacksonville Jaguars a few weeks ago. Corners are a premium position that teams look for, especially right before the trade deadline.
Many teams could be buyers at the deadline that need a corner right now, including the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The demand for a corner is extremely high, and I’d be shocked if the Commanders didn’t trade Igbinoghene for a sixth-round pick. He’s only under contract for this season, and still a cheap option for a team to sign after a trade. Igbinoghene is only 25 and could be a great fit on another defense.
The Commanders might have shown their hand this past Monday, indicating they plan to trade Igbinoghene before the deadline.
Commanders listed Noah Igbinoghene as inactive for Week 8
The Commanders announced their inactive players before kickoff against the Chiefs, and Igbinoghene was the one notable name. It was his first time being inactive this season, and that’s usually the move to make before a trade, which we’ve already seen many times around the league.
Adam Peters needs to collect more draft picks before the trade deadline by sending away whom he can without setting the roster back, and Igbinoghene is the obvious answer, even if it’s for a late-round pick or a pick swap.
