The Pittsburgh Steelers have been rumored to be in trade talks for weeks, if not months. But it all comes down to Tuesday, the 2025 NFL trade deadline. Come 4:00 p.m. (ET), the deadline will have passed, the dust will have settled, and the roster will be relatively set for the rest of the season.
And two of the three rumored options are already off the table for Pittsburgh, as Jakobi Meyers and Rashid Shaheed have been dealt. That leaves Jaylen Waddle as the only option that has been in discussions.
But there may be another name out there, and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is telling the league to keep watching with just hours to go.
Mike Tomlin hints at being buyer ahead of the trade deadline
“You said four o’clock? So we got a few more hours. We’ll see what happens. I like to go shopping,” said Mike Tomlin during his weekly presser on the Steelers YouTube channel on Tuesday. It was a subtle hint that Pittsburgh is looking to make a move, and something Tomlin acknowledged has become commonplace in recent years.
“I look at it in terms of trends from that perspective. I just know that you know if you’re trending in the right direction, if you got the desire to to be in this thing as the road gets narrow, usually you’re open to adding talent that can that can assist you, whether it’s attrition-based or whether it’s just areas where you fall short, and that’s something that I think some of the competitive teams are interested in year in and year out. It’s just a natural component of this thing.”
The Steelers have often been more of bargain shoppers than big money spenders from a historical perspective. However, since Omar Khan took charge, that has changed. The Patrick Queen contract, the DK Metcalf trade, the acquisitions of Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith, it’s not the same old Steelers.
And with more than a few names being floated, and some that are lurking in the shadows, Pittsburgh has the chance to go all in one more time and really make a run at winning its seventh Lombardi.
