Ohio State Buckeyes just poached an elite recruit with NFL bloodline away from another major college football program
A major recruiting win for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.
The month of November is shaping up to be a big one for the Ohio State Buckeyes with signing day approaching. Following their win over the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Buckeyes received commitments from a pair of 2027 offensive line recruits.
That’s not where the Buckeyes are stopping, though. They’re targeting several potential flips from other college football programs — and they’ve just completed a big one.
Ohio State flips CB Jay Timmons from Florida State
Jay Timmons, the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons — who was also a standout at Florida State — has flipped his commitment from the Seminoles to the Buckeyes. After being committed to FSU since June, Timmons now becomes Ohio State’s second cornerback commit in the 2026 class.
Timmons is ranked as the No. 17 cornerback from Pineland, Pennsylvania, and No. 136 overall player nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound cornerback received an offer from the Buckeyes in September and made his official visit to Columbus for the Penn State game. Being part of a talented defense coached by Matt Patricia was enough for Timmons to pull his commitment from the program where his father once starred.
Ohio State now has Timmons joining four-star CB commit Jordan Thomas and three-star Khmari Bing as the three cornerbacks in the class. The Buckeyes are up to 23 total commitments and are still looking to add several more players. Ohio State is also working to flip former Colorado defensive line commit Emanuel Ruffin and add another running back. There’s still work to do for the Buckeyes, but landing Timmons is a big addition during the stretch run of the 2026 class.
