The Colts have the chance at a couple big matchups being flexed into a primetime slot for the entire country to watch.

Expectations were low for the Indianapolis Colts entering the year. Many viewed their choice to start Daniel Jones at QB as a mistake, and as a result, they only landed one true primetime game. That matchup is scheduled for Week 16, when they host the San Francisco 49ers for Monday Night Football.

Now at 8-2 and looking like one of the best teams in the league they could warrant a game or two being flexed into a primetime slot. They are on bye this week and their Week 12 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs is locked in to be at 1 pm eastern. So let’s look at the rest of their schedule to see which matchups have the best chance to be flexed down the stretch.

Colts remaining schedule

  • Week 12: @ Kansas City Chiefs
  • Week 13: vs Houston Texans
  • Week 14: @ Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Week 15: @ Seattle Seahawks
  • Week 16: vs San Francisco 49ers
  • Week 17: vs Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Week 18: @ Houston Texans

Top remaining Colts games that could be flexed

The first game to highlight as the most likely game to be flexed is the Colts Week 15 matchup vs. the 7-2 Seattle Seahawks. Both teams have been fantastic to start the year and have two of the top offenses in the league. Another cool storyline that could be marketed would be a battle of career resurgence QBs between Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones.

The game is set to be played at 4:25 pm, but the primetime matchups in Week 15 could easily be flexed out. The 4-5 Minnesota Vikings are traveling to take on the 3-5-1 Dallas Cowboys for Sunday Night Football, and the 5-4 Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting the 3-7 Miami Dolphins. If the NFL is going to flex the Colts and Seahawks into primetime, it has to happen no later than 12 days out from the matchup. Which means the deadline would be Tuesday, December 2.

There is also one other situation that could lead to a Colts game being flexed into a primetime slot. The Colts play both the Texans and the Jaguars in the final two weeks of the season. The Colts currently have a 2.5 game lead over the Jaguars and a 3.5 game lead over the Texans for the AFC South crown. If that race gets closer, whoever positions themselves to have a chance to take the lead from the Colts, that matchup could end up being flexed. At this point, I think the Week 17 matchup with the Jaguars is more likely, but I refuse to count out the Texans and their elite defense.
