Former Tennessee Vols OC Alex Golesh denies report that he interviewed for recently opened Power-4 head coaching job

Nearly a month ago, Pistol Guys podcast host Carson Cunningham tweeted that former Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh had interviewed for the Oklahoma State job.

Golesh is in his third season as the head coach at USF.

Oklahoma State fired head coach Mike Gundy in late September.

Cunningham’s tweet suggested that Golesh, who was a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State in 2008, is one of the top candidates to replace Gundy in Stillwater.

Golesh was asked this week if he’s had any conversations with Oklahoma State.

“I have not,” said Golesh when asked if he’s had talks with Oklahoma State. “And I addressed it a couple of weeks ago. I’m so focused and locked in on this program and this team. We got so much work to do. But I have not. I try to stay away from the social media piece. For me, it’s humbling that people bring your name up. It’s because the guys (players and assistant coaches) have done an elite job of building this place to where people are taking notice. Credit to our kids. Credit to our staff.”

It’s not a surprise that Oklahoma State reportedly has interest in Golesh. The former Tennessee offensive coordinator has a dynamic offense, and he’s quickly turned things around at USF.

We’ll see in the coming weeks whether Golesh chooses to remain in Tampa or leave for a Power-4 job. He seems happy at USF, and he doesn’t appear to be in a hurry to leave, but it could be difficult to turn down some of the opportunities that may come his way during this winter’s coaching cycle.
