Sherrone Moore makes shocking admission on Ohio State Buckeyes as Michigan Wolverines are set to face off against bitter rival
Sherrone Moore surprisingly admits that the Ohio State Buckeyes have the best offense and the best team in the country ahead of Michigan’s rivalry game
The Michigan Wolverines have put together a strong 9-2 season so far, but none of those games mean anything at all compared to “The Game” that they’ll play against the Ohio State Buckeyes this week. This massive Big Ten rivalry game is unmatched, more intense than anything else in all of college football.
There are others that try to come close like the Iron Bowl (between Alabama and Auburn), the Red River Rivalry (Oklahoma and Texas), and a few others, but nothing is quite like the Michigan Wolverines vs. the Ohio State Buckeyes. When asked about this epic showdown, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore made one shocking admission that you don’t always see from coaches when it comes to their rivals, labeling Ohio State the “best team in the country”.
Sherrone Moore admits Ohio State is best team in the country
The Michigan Wolverines have largely been able to shut down Ohio State offenses four years in a row now, but this year’s squad looks a bit different. Sherrone Moore was asked about the Buckeyes offense, and surprisingly took his comments further than just that one side of the ball for Ohio State:
“It’s potent, man. It’s one of the best [offenses] in the country —obviously, the best team in the country. The receivers are elite. [Number] four, Jeremiah Smith is elite. Carnell Tate is elite. They’ve got Brandon Inniss, he’s elite. The tight end Max Klare is a really good player as well. The quarterback is elite. They’ve got elite players everywhere on the field from a skill position standpoint. Their running back is really good. [Offensive] line is good. It’s a challenge I know our defense is ready to take on.”
It’s a bit odd for Sherrone Moore (or any bitter rival) to admit that Ohio State is the best team in the country, but it is hard to deny based on how this current season has played out. Ohio State ranks number one in the country via the AP Top 25, the College Football Playoff rankings, and near the top of most every meaningful metric like EPA per play, yards per play, offensive and defensive success rates, and more. Yes, the Ohio State wide receivers have been dinged up, so Michigan might be able to take advantage there, but still, this Buckeyes team should present the most difficult challenge of the year for the Wolverines.
Sherrone Moore calls Michigan vs. Ohio State the best rivalry in sports
Regardless of how the game plays out this time around, the intensity of this rivalry is not going to change one bit. Sherrone Moore was asked about the rivalry, and he tried his best to explain just how special it is, but nearly it’s impossible to put into words. More intense than any of the other rivalries around college football (like the Iron Bowl), according to him:
“I was talking to coach [Chip] Lindsey about [the rivalry]. He’s been in he Iron Bowl. We’ve talked to people that have been in the Iron Bowl and this one [between Michigan and Ohio State], it’s different. You can’t describe it. I could try to describe to you the feeling, exactly what it feels like. ‘Oh, it feels like this, it feels like that.’ I can’t. I remember last year going on the field with Jaishawn [Barham], running out there for warm-ups. He was like, ‘Oh, this is different.’ And Jaishawn doesn’t say much. It’s a feeling that you can’t really describe. It’s an intensity, an aura about it, that you can’t describe until you get on the field. It’s awesome to be a part of. It’s the best rivalry in sports, in my opinion. There’s nothing like it.”
It’s going to be tough for Michigan pull off their fifth straight win over the Ohio State Buckeyes considering they truly might be the “best team in the country”, but this year’s team is in a much better position to pull off this (somehow 10-point spread of an) upset. Bryce Underwood is finally clicking on all cylinders as an efficient passer with impressive young weapons like wide receiver Andrew Marsh. The running game is finding ways to dominate, even with their third, fourth, and fifth running backs. The defense hasn’t given up more than 22 points since early October. Michigan fans might be in for yet another surprise in the best way, despite Moore’s bullish comments on the Buckeyes’ overall talents.
