Sooners creating some space between themselves and the pack when it comes to elite 2027 recruit everyone wants
The Sooners really like 2027 recruit and defensive tackle George Toia.
The Oklahoma Sooners have the No. 1 recruiting class in 2027. They have been on fire and wrapped up their 2026 class on National Signing Day. They’ve got Cooper Hackett, maybe one of the best recruits from Oklahoma in a very long time, and have been recruiting places like California very hard.
And, of course, they always recruit Texas well. They’re now closing the gap on one of the most coveted recruits in the 2027 class, in defensive tackle George Toia.
“They are all up there for me!” Toia told Rivals regarding Texas Tech, Oklahoma, USC, and the Oregon Ducks. “I’ve been talking to the coaches a lot. They’re hitting me up every day. That makes me feel like a priority… The visit to Oklahoma went great. The defense there and the coaches over there have me excited about Norman. It’s a great place to play.”
Sooners would love to have Toia add on to their amazing 2027 recruiting class
So far, the Sooners have 11 commitments in their 2027 class. Two of those commitments are guys on the defensive line. There are four-star edge rusher Krew Jones and four-star defensive tackle Elijah Harmon. Adding Toia would only continue to pile on to what’s shaping up to be one of the best classes Oklahoma has seen in a very long time.
Toia is 6’2, 300 pounds. He’s projected to be a nose tackle, similarly to Jayden Jackson. However, the Sooners don’t need him to be anything more than that, especially with the guys they have coming in. Oklahoma is in a spot where they will almost always have an elite defensive line, at least on paper. They need Toia to be great at his job, and whatever that may be, they think he can be elite at it.
The 12th-best recruit from Texas in the 2027 class has offers from everyone. Right now, the top four are what he mentioned previously, but Oklahoma seems to have the lead. According to Rivals, OU has the highest percentage chance of landing him right now, at 21%, ahead of the Ole Miss Rebels.
Toia is elite, and everyone wants him. Landing him would be amazing, but there is still so much time left before this class has to be finalized, and so much can still happen.
