The Baltimore Ravens‘ push for a playoff spot and a possible AFC North title in 2025 has been an uphill climb since the season started. Injuries derailed momentum for Baltimore early on and defensive struggles were plentiful in the first half of the season. Things aren’t completely resolved in Baltimore but there’s been progress on numerous fronts.

Some of that progress is now threatened, however. Because one of the Ravens’ young starters is set to miss the remainder of the season. Rookie linebacker Teddye Buchanan has, officially, a torn ACL.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed the news on Monday, stating that Buchanan “has an ACL and will be out the rest of the year.” It’s an unceremonious ending for the Raven’s fourth-round rookie, who Baltimore picked with the 129th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Among Baltimore’s off-ball linebackers, the rookie trailed only Roquan Smith in snaps taken this season (651 defensive snaps). Including special teams, Buchanan was pushing nearly 800 total snaps.

That’s great return on investment for Baltimore, especially given his status as a Day 3 rookie. But now, the Ravens will be charged with finding alternative options to fill those roles.

Just when it seemed like things were settling in, the attrition of professional football has cast a stone at the Ravens’ defense. The team did, of course, get some much welcomed reinforcements this past weekend with the return of safety Ar’Darius Washington and EDGE Tavius Robinson. Neither will help fill the void by Buchanan, but they’re more pieces to put around the defense and play matchups down the stretch. For Buchanan, he’ll finish his rookie season with 13 starts, 93 total tackles, a half a sack, and five tackles for loss. And Baltimore will hope he can add “successful offseason rehab” to his resume between now and the start of 2026.
