One day after DJ Lagway made his intentions known, the Florida Gators lose another talented player to the transfer portal
Wide receiver Aidan Mizell joined DJ Lagway with intentions to enter the transfer portal, as it’s a loaded wide receiver room.
It’s been a really active 48 hours for the Florida Gators. Monday morning opened the floodgates for players entering the transfer portal when reports surfaced of quarterback DJ Lagway doing so. It wasn’t without controversy, as Lagway reportedly wanted to stay in Gainesville.
So far, there are nine Gators players who have made their intentions known to enter the transfer portal. It’s not too high of a number in today’s day and age of college football, but the latest one is a frustrating entry.
Gators WR Aidan Mizell to enter the transfer portal
The latest impact player to enter the transfer portal is wide receiver Aidan Mizell, as reported by Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.
Mizell is a very talented speedster on the outside. As a recruit, he was a four-star and the No. 18 wide receiver per the 247 Sports composite in the 2023 recruiting class. Through his first three seasons in Gainesville, Mizell didn’t get on the field very much. In his defense, the wide receiver room was filled with talented players, including first-round pick Ricky Pearsall, fourth-round pick Chimere Dike, and Tre Wilson, not to mention the dynamite freshmen Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III.
After playing two games as a true freshman, he played in 12 games as a sophomore and eight this past year. In his career, Mizell’s numbers aren’t nearly there to match his skill set. Over his 22 games, Mizell has 38 catches for 404 yards and three touchdowns, including one against the LSU Tigers this past September.
Mizell released a heartfelt thank you to Gator Nation after the news dropped.
It’s a tough loss for the Gators, especially since he’s a good player, but the Gators are loaded at wide receiver. Mizell will have two seasons remaining and could be a quality contributor on another offense.
