Ohio State football has a clear cut Big Ten transfer portal target that they should be chasing soon
Ohio State will be active in the transfer portal and this Penn State defender could be one player they target.
The Ohio State Buckeyes will soon have to maneuver everything that comes with the transfer portal being open when they plan to still be in the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State has their first player decide that he’s going to be entering the portal on Thursday with WR Bryson Rodgers expected to leave the program. Though the portal doesn’t open officially until Jan. 2, there are players already announcing their intentions. The Buckeyes need to be in one of the latest.
Penn State DE Chaz Coleman should be a clear target for Ohio State
Nittany Lions freshman pass rusher will be entering the portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Coleman showed impressive flashes as a true freshman during the 2025 season in a limited role in nine games. Coleman had eight tackles with three of them being for a loss to go along with one sack. The talented defender is a Warren, Ohio native as well.
Coleman is an athletic freak at 6-foot-4, 246 pounds and could be a great addition to Larry Johnson’s unit. Ohio State recruited Coleman out of Warren, but were unable to land the four star pass rusher over Penn State. One interesting note is that Coleman turned down Penn State’s desire to keep him, including a competitive NIL offer.
Ohio State roster changes that could be upcoming make Chaz Coleman a fit
Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson have both had breakout seasons for the Buckeyes. Curry will be off to the NFL and currently leads the Buckeyes with 11 sacks on the season. Jackson has 6.5 sacks on the season and despite having another year of eligibility, he’s set himself up to be a Day 2 draft pick in April if he wishes to leave Columbus.
Past the top two pass rushers is former North Carolina transfer Beau Atkinson, who will have to decide on staying in Columbus or transferring. Atkinson had 7.5 sacks for North Carolina last season but has just one for the Buckeyes this year. Freshman Zion Grady has been the No. 4 pass rusher for the Buckeyes. C.J. Hicks redshirted this season for a fifth year and he’ll have to decide on his future as well.
Even with the Buckeyes bringing in a talented soon-to-be freshman Khary Wilder, a spot for Coleman exists to have a major role if Jackson decides to leave for the NFL. Ohio State should and probably will have interest in the Penn State transfer.
