Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall has concluded his time with the Tulane Green Wave after Saturday’s 41-10 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels in the College Football Playoff. Now that he’s fully with the Gators, we are seeing his staff get fortified.

Sunday morning brought news of multiple coaching hires for Sumrall, with the majority of them coming from his staff at Tulane.

Florida Gators hire Joe Craddock as quarterbacks coach

Of the multiple coaches to join Sumrall’s staff, the biggest of them is his offensive coordinator at Tulane, Joe Craddock, who will come to Gainesville to be the quarterbacks coach.

Craddock has been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Sumrall for the past four years, joining him at Troy in 2022 and going with him to Tulane in 2024. He led some talented and creative offenses, including ranking in the 86th percentile in EPA/play on non-explosive plays. The Green Wave do a really good job of establishing sustained drives.

One of the big reasons why Craddock’s offenses have been so good is due to the quarterback play. Darian Mensah was tremendous for the Green Wave in 2024, and they didn’t take a step back in 2025 when Jake Retzlaff came to New Orleans just a few weeks before the start of the season.

Craddock wasn’t the only hire for Sumrall from his staff. He also brought in strength coach Rusty Whitt, defensive coordinator Greg Gasparato to coach inside linebackers, co-offensive coordinator Evan McKissack as tight ends coach, ex-Florida Gators player and outside linebackers coach Bam Hardmon, and special teams coordinator Johnathan Galante.

The one spot that we still haven’t seen an official hire yet is at running backs coach. Multiple coaches have been brought in for interviews, and who gets the job could be the deciding factor in keeping Jadan Baugh in Gainesville.
