‘I think he has a chance to really be dynamite for Tennessee this fall’ – New Vols transfer addition will be a gamechanger in 2026
The Tennessee Vols landed one of the most coveted players in the transfer portal.
The Tennessee Vols landed one of their top transfer portal targets last week when Penn State transfer EDGE Chaz Coleman committed to UT.
Coleman was also pursued by LSU and Ohio State, but he ultimately chose to reunite with Vols defensive coordinator Jim Knowles (Coleman and Knowles were together at Penn State in 2025).
The former four-star recruit totaled eight tackles and a sack as a true freshman in 2025.
Vols insider thinks Chaz Coleman could be in for a big season in 2026
VolQuest’s Austin Price joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Tuesday and sounded very optimistic about what Coleman can potentially provide for the Volunteers in 2026.
“[He’s] long and athletic,” said Price of what Tennessee likes about Coleman. “Obviously, the staff knew exactly what they were getting with Chaz Coleman. It’s why they pushed so hard.”
“They believe that he has the chance to go boom,” continued Price. “And I think that’s why for Coleman, these next four months [are] really big from the standpoint of Tennessee’s got to get their strength coach hired, and that guy’s got to hit the ground running. Chaz Coleman, if he puts on the proper weight, is going to be a terror come September. So, again, a good looking kid — long, lean, and athletic. He just needs to have a really good offseason, and I think he has a chance to really be dynamite for Tennessee this fall.”
With EDGE Caleb Herring and EDGE Jordan Ross hitting the transfer portal, it means that Coleman will be instantly thrust into a key role in the Vols’ defense.
The fact that Coleman played for Knowles last season will help him become an instant impact player for Tennessee. But still, nothing is given when it comes to performance. Coleman will need to play at a high level for the Vols’ defense to reach its potential next season. He may only be a sophomore, but that’s the type of player that Tennessee’s expecting Coleman to be in 2026 (a high payday comes with high expectations in college football these days).
Tennessee also landed a commitment this week from Tulane transfer EDGE Jordan Norman.
Tennessee has a real chance to be an even better pass rushing team in 2026, but it’ll depend largely on how Coleman and Norman perform next fall.
