Ohio State football is acting quickly to bring in a transfer portal player they need for a visit to Columbus
The Buckeyes need to go out and get a player who would fit like a glove in Columbus.
Ohio State has brought in 11 additions in total from the transfer portal so far with 30 players heading out of the program.
The transfer portal will close on Friday but players can still find landing spots after that. Ohio State still has several needs that they have to tackle from the portal — and they’re closing in on a key one of those.
Buckeyes set to host their potential answer at the kicker position for a visit
News broke early Wednesday that Baylor K Connor Hawkins would be entering the transfer portal. With Jayden Fielding out of eligibility, Hawkins immediately looked like a player the Buckeyes should be interested in. According to Lettermen Row, Hawkins will be visiting Columbus on Thursday.
Ohio State doesn’t currently have a kicker on its roster with backup Jackson Courville transferring to Tulane. Hawkins is the first kicker that the Buckeyes are bringing in out of the portal for a visit — and it’ll happen on the first day possible after the dead period ends.
Hawkins made 18-of-22 kicks for Baylor in 2025 with a long make of 54 yards. The Buckeyes haven’t made a 50-yard field goal in over a half-decade and that’s an embarrassing stat when you look at the talent that they bring in everywhere else.
The appealing thing with recruiting Hawkins is that he was a freshman in 2025 — so he’s going to bring three years of eligibility with him. Hawkins made all 37 extra point attempts and was 3-of-4 from 50 or more yards for the Bears.
Ohio State’s kicking game with Fielding struggled in the final two games of the season — both losses to the Indiana Hoosiers and Miami Hurricanes. With Ohio State getting a kicker on campus, they look to be closing in on a key addition for the program.
