The Baltimore Ravens‘ offseason outlook is dramatically different this afternoon than it was just 24 hours ago.

Star pass rusher Maxx Crosby is going to be a Raven when the league year starts next week, courtesy of a late-night development last night. The Ravens, who were sorely lacking in the pass rush department, can probably consider that need on the roster sufficiently checked. The rest of the offseason plan is going to have to continue without a premium draft selection at Baltimore’s disposal — and it’s a first in franchise history as far as the circumstances go.

Per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, the Ravens have never traded a first-round draft selection for another player that was already in the league. It’s a pretty wild stat to think about — but it’s also hard to argue with the results. Baltimore’s most recent splash trade was the acquisition of linebacker Roquan Smith back in 2022. He was traded for a second-round draft choice.

If the numbers hold and Baltimore goes without a first round pick, it will be just the fourth time in franchise history that the Ravens have not made a pick in the first round: the other three times came in 2012, 2010, and 2004. The successes of those drafts were understandably mixed. 2004 brought DT Dwan Edwards, while the stars of the 2010 and 2012 drafts were TE Dennis Pitta and OG Kelechi Osemele.

Baltimore’s first pick this year, as of now, is scheduled for 45th overall. But this aggressive offseason for the Ravens may just be getting started. So let’s wait and see where things go from here before putting anything in stone.
