5 free agents the Buffalo Bills should target once free agency begins
Get it done, Brandon Beane.
The Buffalo Bills have plenty of holes on the roster leading up to the free agency period. Left guard, safety, nickel, linebacker, edge, punter, and punt returner are all a few that immediately come to mind, and then of course, you can never have too many weapons for quarterback Josh Allen.
This is the time of year when Buffalo can bolster its roster: free agency.
With plenty of holes to fill and not a ton of cash to get things done, let’s take a look at some of the top targets I have heading into free agency for the Bills.
LB Leo Chenal
Despite not having a full-time role carved out for him with the Kansas City Chiefs, Chenal is my “gotta have it” free agency pickup for the Buffalo Bills this offseason. He has plenty of suitors, and he’s going to be fairly cheap considering the lack of a starter role. However, the flashes are there, and in Buffalo, he’d be given a chance to truly shine in Jim Leonhard’s new defensive scheme.
He’s elite against the run, has a physical style of play, and has experience with Leonhard himself. He could easily be a 120-130 tackle-type player if given the opportunity. Steven Spagnuolo spoke highly of Chenal’s impact on the defense during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Leo is a key guy to what we do and what we’ve become, because of how many things he can do,” Spagnuolo said.
S Reed Blankenship
Buffalo needs a safety to pair alongside Cole Bishop, and former Eagles safety Reed Blankenship could fit that perfectly. The cost would be there, assuming he would go around $10 million AAV, based on Kam Curl basically resetting the market with a three-year $36 million deal.
Blankenship was a captain at the collegiate and NFL levels and keeps his head on a swivel, erasing crossing routes and plays much faster than timed speed. He has great angles to the ball in the open field and would immediately make an impact on the roster. In four years in the league, he’s played in 56 games with nine interceptions, 23 passes defensed, and 308 combined tackles.
WR Darnell Mooney
You can never have too many weapons for quarterback Josh Allen. While the team traded for DJ Moore, I don’t think that they are done adding to that room quite yet, and the recent release by the Atlanta Falcons could have the perfect receiver fall right into the Bills’ lap.
Mooney took a step back with his game in 2025, but that’s not to say that Allen and the offense couldn’t get him right back to where he was two seasons ago, putting up almost 1,000 receiving yards. He’s not a true No. 1 or even No. 2 guy, but could come in as the No. 3 option in the offense and flourish. Again, you can never have too many weapons for Allen and the offense.
EDGE Charles Omenihu
The 28-year-old unrestricted free agent could immediately come in and make an impact in Jim Leonhard’s new defense. The seven-year veteran has played in 95 games with the Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, and Kansas City Chiefs, starting in 12 games and registering eight passes defensed, six forced fumbles, and 23 sacks to go along with 129 combined tackles.
Omenihu is a fan of the Bills and, in particular, quarterback Josh Allen. So naturally, it would be a match made in heaven. Omenihu would help give Buffalo what they’ve been lacking: a decent pass rush. His playoff experience with Kansas City and his production speak for themselves.
“I think he’s a beast,” Omenihu said. “I think he’s top five in the league. I think this has been his best year. I have the utmost respect for him. He’s a baller.”
G Wyatt Teller
In my predictions article for the free agency period, I talked about how I didn’t want a reunion for Buffalo in the linebacker or receiving room, but that’s not to say a reunion can’t happen in the offensive line room.
Teller was originally drafted by Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills, and his return could help solidify an already outstanding offensive line. With the rumored departure of David Edwards, the team could use some help filling in that position. Yes, they have Alec Anderson, who just signed a one-year deal, but it’s the offseason, and that’s no fun.
