Grading The Signings: Buffalo Bills make under-the-radar offensive additions with QB Josh Allen in mind
Not the splashiest of moves, but exciting ones nevertheless.
The Buffalo Bills have made a move, ladies and gentlemen. Well, to be more correct, they made three moves. It’s been officially reported by the team that they have signed wide receiver Trent Sherfield, guard and center Austin Corbett, and center Lloyd Chusenberry III to one-year deals.
Buffalo has been making some moves during the offseason, bringing in players like EDGE Bradley Chubb, safeties Geno Stone and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and trading for wide receiver DJ Moore. Pair that with Buffalo taking care of its own with deals to center Connor McGovern and offensive lineman Alec Anderson, and the team is quietly building out its roster.
All three decisions were made with quarterback Josh Allen in mind. Another weapon, and some key protection up front. While the names won’t make any headlines on their own, the additions provide some valuable depth across the offensive line. It’s a big win for Buffalo, even if these players never touch the field.
There’s some history with some of the players joining Buffalo
If the name Trent Sherfield sounds familiar, it’s because it’s his second stint with the organization. Buffalo needs more weapons, and Sherfield is going to have to fight to get a roster spot. In 2023, with the Bills, he had 11 receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown. Most recently, he split his time between the Arizona Cardinals and the Denver Broncos in 2024, totaling three receptions for 21 yards.
As for Cushenberry, he has experience with the new head coach, Joe Brady. The veteran offensive lineman played for Brady at LSU. While injuries have damaged his career, Cushenberry actually started in all 15 games he played for the Tennessee Titans in 2025. It’s never a bad thing to have some backup center options, although it’s very much McGovern’s job for the foreseeable future.
And finally, Corbett. He doesn’t have any big ties with the team or Brady, but if his name sounds familiar, it’s because Buffalo brought in the eight-year veteran for a visit earlier in the week. He should compete with Alec Anderson and could see some decent playing time. Again, more of a backup role for sure, but depth is always good to have.
Brandon Beane made a smart, but quiet move, to help bolster the roster
All in all, Buffalo brought in some key depth and protection for Allen and a receiver that’s worked with him in the past. It’s not a slam dunk, and the players aren’t even guaranteed to make the roster when the year actually begins. But any decision made with Allen in mind is a win in my book. General manager Brandon Beane, I tip my cap to you, sir.
