Will Howard’s top 2026 NFL Draft prospect is a Pittsburgh Steelers’ Deja vu moment waiting to happen in Round 1
Will Howard is hoping to throw to a familiar face again.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a plethora of different positions and potential options that could be within reach come night one of April’s rapidly approaching NFL Draft. The three most popular positions when it comes to the Steelers in round one are of OL, WR, and quarterback.
Howard’s pick at 21 wouldn’t be a quarterback, and while every signal caller likes to be protected, they also like to throw touchdowns. Well, Howard will be throwing touchdowns to an old teammate if he gets his way.
Will Howard wants the Steelers to draft Carnell Tate in Round 1
“Will isn’t giving me no tips. He’s probably going to root for me to come with him to Pittsburgh,” said OSU WR Carnell Tate at his Pro Day. The standout from the Ohio State Buckeyes talked about catching passes from Howard again at the NFL Combine, saying that he missed his national champion-winning quarterback.
“Will’s my guy. All me and Will do is joke around with each other. We call each other make fun of each other. It’s a great relationship with Will. I miss him. It would be great to catch passes with Will. l’ve done it before.”
How the Steelers can draft Carnell Tate
The last time the Steelers drafted a WR in the first round? It was 20 years ago this April. Santonio Holmes of Ohio State went on to be the Steelers’ pick at 25th overall, and I would say that things panned out, judging by the Super Bowl ring on his finger thanks to one of the greatest catches in NFL history.
But if the Steelers want to go back to the OSU well and give Will Howard his wish, it won’t be easy. Tate is widely regarded as one of the best prospects in this class and arguably the best WR prospect. In our latest 4-round mock draft at A to Z Sports, Tate went 4th overall to the Tennessee Titans and his ADP or average draft position is in the 7-8 range for most mocks.
So for Pittsburgh, it would probably mean that Tate would have to fall a bit, and then Khan and co would package pick 21 with one or maybe even two of their 12 picks in April’s draft to make a move for Tate, which might not be such a bad idea when all set and done.
