‘He knows what I’m good at’ — Gators WR Eric Singleton Jr. expands on returning to college and why he chose Florida
New Florida Gators wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. spoke to the media on Wednesday after spring practice, detailing the reasons why he chose Gainesville after declaring for the NFL Draft.
One of the biggest recruiting wins for the Florida Gators this offseason was poaching wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. He was primed to enter the NFL Draft, but chose to return to college instead.
Multiple teams pursued Singleton in the transfer portal, but he ended up with the Gators. There was too much camaraderie in Gainesville to not commit to Florida, and that was before former teammates, quarterback Aaron Philo and wide receiver Bailey Stockton, committed to Jon Sumrall‘s squad.

Eric Singleton Jr. thought the Gators were an easy choice
Singleton has spent three seasons in college football. He was with the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets in 2023 and 2024, while playing for the Auburn Tigers last season. Marcus Davis recruited him there, and Georgia Southern before getting him to Gainesville.
“Yeah, it was pretty cool. I actually recruited him when I was at Georgia Southern. So I had a previous relationship with him,” Davis continued. “And a funny story, he still had my number. Saved this coach Davis, Georgia Southern, so I told him he got to update it, and now he got to update it again. Yeah, we had a relationship back at Georgia Southern, back in 2022, when he came out of high school.”
Having that kind of continuity is important for multiple reasons, especially the offense that he is returning to.
“I mean, me, personally, I’ve had two years under my belt, so it was just me getting used to the new signals, the new like the new calls everything. But other than that, everything’s just clicking,” said Singleton.
Buster Faulkner was a major reason for Singleton’s commitment
Those were all major reasons why Singleton chose the Gators, but his connection with offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner is the biggest of them.
“That was a key factor to my decision coming back,” said Singleton. “Me and Buster have a very tight connection, even when I declared, he kept emphasizing me still having a chance to come back to Florida. You feel like he knows how to use you right way. He knows what I’m good at.”
In Faulkner’s offense, Singleton will likely be the Z-receiver, but he could kick inside to the slot. He would be elite with a two-way go, which is what they will be giving to Vernell Brown III.
It’s a huge win for the Gators to get him in the fold for Sumrall’s first season, and it could spike his NFL Draft slot.
