Ohio State basketball has come out of the weekend with great news regarding the transfer portal, and one former player has signed off already
Ohio State has picked up another commitment from the transfer portal and one former Buckeye is a fan of the addition made by Jake Diebler.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have been going through what is a very important transfer portal period for the program. Ohio State basketball lost several players to the portal and needed to make several additions due to already losing players like Bruce Thornton and Christoph Tilly to graduation.
Ohio State started the portal period out by adding former California G Justin Pippen. Then, the Buckeyes added some size with former Kentucky F Andrija Jelavic into the mix. Now, Ohio State has filled one of its key bench losses over the weekend.
Ohio State brings an Ohio native back to the state to join the basketball program
Losing Taison Chatman and Gabe Cupps as bench contributors made it important for the Buckeyes bring in some depth from the portal. Ohio State did so by adding former Duquesne transfer G Jimmie Williams from the transfer portal. Williams started at the JUCO level in college after playing his high school basketball in Solon, Ohio.
Williams spent a season at South Florida and then his junior season at Duquesne. Landing at Ohio State will be the third Division I program for the 6-foot-5 shooting guard. Williams averaged 15.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 31 starts for Duquesne this past season.
The scoring threat Williams brings will be needed off the bench. Ohio State’s top two guards are set to be Pippen and John Mobley Jr., but Williams will be relied upon as a scoring threat off the bench.
Former Ohio State Buckeye is signing off on the move
Former Ohio State G JJ Sullinger took to X to show his excitement for Williams joining the team after he was a primary scoring threat at Duquesne, where JJ’s brother Julian Sullinger is an assistant coach. Julian is also the brother of former Buckeye, Jared. If we have Sullinger’s backing for the move, it might just be a good one.
